2016: The Year I Discovered Makeup

I never understood makeup or the necessity of it. I criticized women who wore it too much. But after a nasty heartbreak this year, I realized that women wore makeup not to impress others but to please themselves. I started wearing makeup to feel better about myself, to boost my confidence, and to prove to myself that I am capable of loving myself. Anyway, enough drama and rambling on why I fell in love with makeup. Here are the makeup products I’m currently using. I can only tell you how great they are on my skin but I cannot recommend them because each one of us has different skin tone and type.

My skin type is oily. Although I was fine with reapplying face powder whenever it gets oily but with back to back meetings at work, long drives & errands, and a full day outdoors, it is not practical. Especially when you have to stand in front of complete strangers, applying makeup. Not a fun sight. Then, I finally found this product. It is applied before foundation.  Once you apply the foundation after, it gives a matte finish which practically means that my skins looks less oily throughout the day. It still gets sliiiiiightly oily after few hours but not like before.

One of the downsides of being me are my dark circles. Hate them. The magic trick to hiding those pandas is by using an orange-colored concealer. The Fake up darkest shade works perfectly as a healer! I then apply the erase paste above it for the final correct color coverage. This Erase Paste product from Benefit is a lifesaver for me. It covers everything, I use it to cover pimples and dark spots.

I’ve used too many foundation products in my life. Yes, I used to apply makeup but just really slightly. Last month, I decided to try the Max Factor Facefinity 3 in 1. It is supposed to be a primer, concealer, and foundation all in one. Hmmmm not convinced. I still needed to use concealer. However, it does have a lovely finish & doesn’t melt as much as other liquid foundations. (Heat in Qatar can reach upto 60 degrees…Celsius! during the summer). I think I will go with other foundation products next time which are the Estee Lauder Double Wear and the FAMOUS and revolutionary foundation, the YSL Le Cushion Encre de Peau.

This is actually a foundation but I use it as a finishing powder after applying the foundation. I’ve been using it for a about a week now and I must say I am very impressed. Two Words: Full Coverage.

This is a world where I never thought I would explore. Never ever. I always made fun of contouring tutorials. Buuuuuuuut, it is amazing!!! I mean, why not look even more polished? why not??

For work, I use the Max Factor (You can see that I went on a shopping spree with their products last month!) Pan Stik and Highlighter. The Pan Stik is great and comes with a tiny brush for nose contouring. As for the highlighter, meh…. Not very impressed. It is mostly barely there and is gone by the time I finish applying make up.

For my non-work related events, I spoil myself with NARS Narsissist . You can see that I just purchased it but so far the contouring palette works great. The pinkish colors at the bottom are blushes.

I am currently using two blushes on a regular basis. The Nars bright pink blush and the Hervana from Benefit. A girl gotta look like she just stepped of the beach ok?

Eyebrows, eyebrows, eyebrows. The wonderland of eyebrows. I have really thin eyebrows which I hate. It used to work for me during the early 2000s but not lately.

I start with the Gimme Brow product. The last one from the top. It gives my eyebrows volume just as the product says: Gimme brows :). Then I start shaping using the second product from the top. Then I use the third one from the top to lock in the kiddish (not so much) drawings I just did on my brows. It is a gel-like material that actually saves me from looking like an idiot when one of my brows decide to melt or disappear. Finally, I highlight the bottom of my brows with the top product for a polished and clean look.

Ok, please stop thinking of me as a makeup freak. I don’t use all those eyeliners at once. However, I always use the Sephora beige nuit kajal on my lower eyelid in order to accentuate my eyes so they look bigger. I always used to apply black eyeliner on my lower lid until someone told me I have tiny eyes. (I KNOW, DEAR, I KNOW). I also rotate on using the Sephora black nuit kajal, The Nars, or the Tattoo Liner by Kat Von D. My favorite so far is the KVD. Since I have an oily skin, I always apply a primer around my eyes before working the magic 🙂 The primer, also a Sephora product, is pictured below

I am new to the world of eye shadow. I bought both products last week and I’m currently learning how to apply proper eyeshadow.

Bourjois’ Volume reveal waterproof is the best I’ve ever tried. I previously tried many mascaras that claim to be “waterproof” but they all failed until this one came along. As a primer, I use the Smashbox lash primer.

Nope, it’s not just a simple one layer of lipstick nowadays, it is a three-step process.

Step One: Dior’s Lip Maximizer Collagen Activ. It is supposed to pump up your lips and make them “seem” bigger after 15 days of daily use. So far, no changes as I’m still within the 15 days. I’ll let you know by the end of January. One advise: It tingles!!!!!

Step Two: The lipstick. Currently, I am obsessed with Huda Beauty’s Liquid Matte lipsticks and I’m planning on purchasing all shades!

Step Three: It is actually a steal. It is part of a two-step product that is supposed to lock in and moisture the Lipfinity lipsticks. I use it for all lipsticks. Why? because I am constantly eating and drinking coffee. I cannot keep re-applying lipstick all day! This is the only product that I will recommend as it actually works as a seal preventing lipsticks from fading.

At last, let me lock in all the hard work !!!! This product is great for indoor activities and cool weather. However, it is still not working well during the scorching hot days in Doha; especially when I have to cross an entire tracking field just to grab coffee and/or lunch at work!!!!! So once I’m done with it, I am moving on. Nevertheless, it can be used in countries with cooler climates.

I will be posting my makeup splurges on a monthly basis. Probably by the end of every month to highlight my favorites.
