Magnolia Bakery – Sweet, Savory, & Sassy

Magnolia Bakery was all about sugar, sugar, and only sugar. I still remember their old menu when it only consisted of cakes, cupcakes, other assorted desserts, and beverages. It was always enough. I never asked for more.

However, I was happy when they finally started to expand their menu slowly with just basic breakfast and now they have a complete savory menu. Just like love. Don’t they say that you fall in love slowly then all at once?

Their menu now includes salads, biscuit sandwiches (A MUST TRY!!! TRUST ME! OK? OK? OK!), regular sandwiches, skillets, and pasta.

I recently attended an event for their new menu tasting and here are the items I loved:

Pulled Beef Biscuit:

This is by landslide my favorite dish. I don’t want to try anything else. Call me selfish; I don’t care. This is amazing. It is basically pulled beef in between two cheddar black pepper biscuits. Highly recommended!

Lemon Mint Fizz:

I always prefer ordering lemonade whenever I’m out for lunch. This ones is really well made. Not too sweet. Not too sour. Just perfect. Very refreshing. This will be my go to drink during Doha’s hot summer days.

Penne Milano (It is actually Fettuccine on their menu):

This is a good one as well. Served with creamy sauce, herb grilled chicken, and sun dried tomatoes. The thing with pasta is that it is either very salty or served sans salt. Both cases are annoying as hell. However, this one tasted just en point. Another recommended dish.

Magnolia Desserts don’t need a review. I mean, come on. How thick would I be if I did that. I will just share the photo below and leave you drooling on your shirt. Maybe on your pillow tonight if you were lucky enough to dream of Magnolia Bakery!

Next time, from their new menu I’ll be trying the Torta Espanola, Bacon & Onion Nola Pie, and the Apple Dutch Baby. Of course, while sitting at their outdoor seating at their Mall of Qatar Branch.

Shop Qatar 2017 – A Weekend of Firworks & Food

The first weekend of the first ever Shop Qatar Festival was loud garnished with food.

For the launch of the first ever Shop Qatar Festival (which is similar in retrospect to Dubai Shopping Festival; not as glamorous but we’re getting there), Qatar celebrated it with fireworks and foodtrucks. The launching event took place at the Cornish by the Oryx. There were several food trucks such as Burgeri and Minis-Doha. What I love about Qatar is that we’re seeing a lot of local businesses garnering recognition more than chains. People are also enjoying those local restaurants instead of criticizing and holding on to chain restaurants.

Other than foodtrucks, the cornish lit up every night (Thursday-Saturday) with beautiful fireworks. I don’t know why but ever since I officially moved to Qatar in 2012, I always missed any sort of fireworks. Not this time, baby!

The Shop Qatar Festival is supposed to continue until February 7th. However, the fireworks and foodtrucks will not.

I teeny tiny suggestion to the person reading this blog and happens to work with the organizers of Shop Qatar, please keep the weekends busy. It would’ve been nice to see those trucks somewhere else in Doha such as Aspire Park or Katara’s renovated beachfront; with fireworks of course 😊 because why not?? We can beat Dubai at its own game! Come on!

Anyway, here are some photos 🙂

Enjoy ❤️

Foozeesta Review #6: Terminal Burger

tb 10.jpg

Forget fast food, forget Shake Shack, forget In & Out, forget any other burger place that you love because this one is replacing it.

It comes from Bahrain with a really unique and funny concept. It is an airport style joint. Everything from their decor, menu, even the employees wear airport/airplane attire.

From the moment you walk in, it feels like you’re actually departing! The place is small so I would recommend that you take away your orders.

Even the waiter had a uniform on and a cheeky personality as well 🙂 I’d stolen a shot from him on the way out but he asked me for another one once I told him I’ll be blogging and posting his picture online. Oh my pinoys…. 🙂

Now to the food!!!! They serve 5 types of burgers: New York, Chicago, Mexico, Milan, & Beirut. Each burger with a it’s own taste and mix. I ordered the Chicago burger and it was love from first bite.

tb 6.jpg

The burger is juicy with many ingredients inside in addition to the beef patty (DUH!) such as lettuce, cheese, and caramelized onions. I love caramelized onions and what are the odds that the burger I chose had it. YUM YUM YUM!!!!!! Look how huge the burger was for just 29 QR!!!!

tb 7.jpg

They also have two types of fries: The Economy class & the First Class. I usually avoid beef bacon at all costs and I did order one without it. However, they forgot and served us one with bacon. Not bad. Not bad at all. The odd bacon taste was not even there. On the contrary, it was crunchy and sooooo damn tasty. The fries were flat & thick and definitely cannot be compared to fast food fries 🙂 Highly recommended.

Their menu was also soooo unique and exciting to read 🙂 Here it is below:

I am definitely coming back very soon (probably this week) to try out the New York Flight with brown bread. Of course, I’ll be ordering the 1st class fries and the black & white cake for dessert. I will post a short review on both on my Instagram and Facebook Pages once I try them out.

Here is a final photo with all my orders. They are currently located in Al Waab Street, a few meters after the petrol station.

Foozeesta Review #5: The Cheesecake Factory – Mall of Qatar

So where do I begin? Let’s start with the hype. It took me 9 days before I finally had the time to try the newly opened Cheesecake Factory located at the also newly inaugurated Mall of Qatar. I was actually there at the soft opening, however, I did not have the chance to try the Qatar Mall branch of CF. Why? IT WAS FULLY BOOKED! & the line of people was even longer 😦

This fact is actually true as confirmed by their – very friendly – branch manager. In fact, he said that currently, this restaurant is the second busiest in the world!!! Macdonald’s in Korea was in first place. (Not cool, Korea; Qatar always wins ok?)

The good news is that another branch is also opening soon (WHEN? WHEN?!!!!!) at a mall that is literally a two-minute drive from home. (I am a fast driver but that doesn’t count).

Now let’s talk about the food.

I ordered the Chicken & Biscuits as the main course and the Berry Spritzer as a drink

I liked the Berry Spritzer. It is made with strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries blended and served over ice using Sprite as the base liquid. I liked this drink. Not too sweet not to acidic. Just perfect!

The Chicken & Biscuits was really yummmm! One downside, which was my fault, are the green peas 😦 I detest green peas and they were all over the place. Major throwback to my childhood days when I was forced to eat them 😦

However, I loved everything else. The rich pan gravy, their signature mashed potatoes (craving. it. right. now), the sautéed chicken breasts, and most importantly the buttermilk biscuits!!!! YUMMMMMMMM.

I was amazed by the portion size. It was huge! There was no place left in my tummy for dessert! (Took it takeaway). Their prices are on the upper scale compared to other chain restaurants; however, their portions make for it so it is definitely worth it.

My friends ordered lunch size meals :

Thai Glazed Salmonccf 4.jpg

My friend was amazed by this one. She actually finished the whole place and kept repeating the words “Ang Sarapppp” which means sooooo tasty in Filipino.

I will definitely order this one on my next trip.

Fresh Grilled Salmonccf-5

This looks like a healthy choice; a delicious healthy choice as per my friend 🙂

Pasta with Shrimp & Sausage

Another one on my list to try soon. Why? The moment it arrived, it smelled heavenly!

I’ve been out for breakfast, lunch, dinner with friends. This was the first time that it was a full house agreement on the taste of CF’s food. We all loved it and agreed to come back again!!!!

Since we were extremely stuffed, we decided to come back after our shopping galore to takeaway some slices of cheesecakes. Below are snapshots of the cake menu. I know a lot of you are looking to have an idea on what the Qatar branch is offering. They also provide a selective range of cakes. (THEY WERE HUGE!!! HUGE!). I ordered the Hershey’s Chocolate Bar Cake. Highly recommended. Not too sweet as you’d expect which is perfect. It was decadent, creamy, and the sponge cake was very soft. Next on my list is the Chocolate Tower Truffle Cake. Why? Because I saw it while waiting for my order and it was inviting me over for a slice. I had to use every nerve in my body to look away and focus on eating sugar once at a time!

The price for the single slice is very reasonable compared to their sizes! You can also order the whole cake for an average price of QR 260

Foozeesta Review #4: Chac’Late – Katara

This will be a somehow short blog as I am planning on going back to try their breakfast menu!

I’ve wanted to visit this place for a long time. & finally I did. What surprised me the most about this place are the prices. So cheap compared to other Katara restaurants. Kodus!

I ordered the Medovnik cake which is a Czech Republic – Prague specialty. My expectation was that it would be very sweet with layers of sugar cream. I was wrong. The cake was not very sweet. Therefore, I added the melted chocolate. OH. MY. GOD. (cries inside because I want to go back right now. RIGHT NOW). Highly recommended for the chocolate lovers reading this post.

They also have a breakfast menu, a wide variety of waffles, assorted drinks, and of course, coffee.

Definitely going back soon just to try their breakfast menu & sit in their outdoor seats.

Below are some photos of their indoor decor:

Foozeesta Review #3: Urban Jazz Kitchen – The Pearl

Warning: This blog post contains many, many pictures!

Since I work at the American School of Doha, I’ve been Americanized in an indirect way. Whether I like it or not, I am celebrating their holidays.

This weekend is Thanksgiving weekend! and it is a (it’s still ongoing) a long one. A 4-day one!!! Therefore, I decided to enjoy it as much as I can. With Food. Of course with food! Come on, it’s thanksgiving!

Which bring me to my main topic. My review on Urban Jazz Café at The Pearl.

I Just realized that I should have taken a picture of their grand entrance. So I will just borrow it from a fellow Intagramer:

Beautiful place, isn’t it? Those colorful “tents” have couches inside for those wanting their privacy. Below is a quick snapshot:

I visited this place twice this weekend. The first was for brunch and the second for dinner because I had to experience their night ambience. And oh my was it lovely. There was barely anyone so it was quiet and serene. I even sat very comfortably for a public place!!

Very Comfortable!! 🙂

The Brunch

From the moment I walked in, I was very impressed with their décor. I really appreciate owners who entertain every aspect of their costumer needs. They had regular tables, couches, outdoor tents, and a terrace! I was instantly in love with their couches! It matched my personal aesthetic. Modern Vintage! Love it! Below are few photos:

Now to the food!

I ordered Crispy Chicken & Avocado Burger (65 QR). It is just a regular chicken burger but with the addition of coleslaw inside the burger. Lebanese usually prepare burgers this way so I was impressed. The chicken was juicy and the burger was HUGE! I had to cut it into pieces in order to bite. It comes with French fries in a basket. They also offer two sauces, ketchup and mayonnaise mixed with pickles (yum!). One downside were the buns; it was not fresh. It looked and tasted like they used the ones from the previous day. If you’re not a fan of avocado like myself, you can have it on the side for someone else to have.

A closer look at my order:

My friend order the Spicy Arrabbiata ( 35 QR). It is prepared with Spaghetti w/ Garlic seasoned with tomatoes & red chili peppers in olive oil & parmesan cheese. Although my friend said it wasn’t spicy, it was!!! It comes with a slice of garlic bread. It wasn’t heaven and it wasn’t bad. It was a regular spaghetti…

I also ordered an appetizer, the Arabic Mixed Platter (50QR). It comes with Cheese Rokakat (basically fried spring roll with cheese inside), Spinach Fatayer, Meat Sambosik, & Hummus. To be honest I ordered it for the Hummus 🙂 The platter was good. Cheese Rokakat tasted homemade which means it was delicious! What I liked about this platter was the level of salt. It was just enough. This appetizer is good for 2 persons since the portions were somehow small.

Now to the drinks! I ordered the Pomegranate Italian Soda (18 QR) which was sooo sweet!!! I couldn’t continue so I switched with my friend’s order, the Mixed Berry Mojito (25QR). It was sweet & sour at the same time and really really cold since it was blended with crushed ice. Not your regular mojito indeed! Very refreshing. No wonder it is their bestseller.

The Dinner

Not many people prefer to visit the same restaurant two days in a row. But the privacy of the tents really made me come back another time with my family.

I ordered the magnificent Shish Taouk Urban Espetada! (yes, with an exclamation mark!) (80 QR) I loved it! The portions were huge! The chicken was marinated really well. It was grilled and my was it grilled to the point where it is still moist and juicy! I always though Nandos prepared the best Espetadas but this was much much better. It comes with Kabsa Rice (My sister cooks the best Kabsa rice and she was impressed), fries, garlic sauce, and another sauce that was just OMG (Crying face over here! So Good!). I highly recommend this platter. It is a must have!

I also ordered the Pink Lemonade (22 QR). It is also recommended for all those who lemonade fans out there!

I also tried my  mom’s order, Alfredo (45 QR). It made of mushroom cream sauce & parmesan cheese. She added chicken for (10 QR). Also highly recommended for all those pasta addicts. It is not heavy on the stomach and the portion was big!

That’s it for now my loves! Please check out their menu on Zomato and do not hesitate to visit them.

Foozeesta Blog #2: Chocoglaze – Dar Al-Salam Mall

I discovered this place completely by chance while out shopping. Dessert places like this one are usually very quick to go viral on social media. However, this one seems to slowly take its sweet sweet time. I was very impressed from the very first sight. I wasn’t planning on even having dessert (or even dinner!) but I just couldn’t resist sitting at this place & trying their desserts. Their service is very quick & staff are friendly and communicative.

What attracted me in the first instance is the decor and furniture, Very creative & unique. It looks like the owner worked really hard on setting up their own signature. I wasn’t a big fan of the cartoon characters; nevertheless, everything went well with each other. Even the waiters’ uniform!!

I really really really really wanted to enjoy that giant teal couch, but they had costumers sitting on it when I arrived. Definitely, going back just to sit on that beautiful couch!!!

The wall murals was also really impressive! I believe the owner is a wanderlust and reflected that passion into their business. The walls were covered with murals on Brussels, New York, Paris, London & Beirut! Beirut!! My hometown 🙂 This place is so girly! Maybe that’s why it hadn’t garnered that much attention yet since most of the food bloggers in Qatar are male 🙂 🙂

 Decadent Ultimate Duo

I ordered the Decadent Ultimate Duo (39 QR). It is a chocolate sponge cake covered in milk & white chocolate. What I liked most about this dessert is that it wasn’t very very sweet. The sponge cake was just that. Sponge cake. No filling, no chocolate chips, no nuts. The melted chocolate was all that mattered. Oh, & that cute syringe filled with decadent chocolate. YUM!!! Highly recommended for the chocolate lovers out there! The portion was also hmmm I won’t say small but … enough! Meaning, you won’t feel bloated after. This was suggested by the (very friendly and smiley) waitress as their best seller.

Meringue Signature… forgot the rest 🙂 (35 QR)

My cousin ordered this one. She is a meringue addict ( I AM NOT!). Her reactions to this one was: WOW! This is also a sponge cake wrapped in a meringue-like cream. Plot Twist? There is ice cream hidden in there 🙂 It also comes with a side of warm melted chocolate & three little blueberries.

In conclusion, if you are a sugar lover GO GO GO!!
