My Battle with the Sun

Living in the middle of the desert can be challenging. Well, it is challenging. I’ve grown to fall in love with Qatar and its lifestyle. However, the only thing that I never got adjusted to was the heat and its drastic effects on my skin. Currently, I have three skin tones: The real one, the tan that won’t go away, & the permanent hand tan. Nope. Not funny.

To rectify the damage, I follow several skin care preventive measures:

1- Vitamins: Vitamin E pills to be specific. I use a brand from back home in the Philippines that works for me.

2- Sunscreens and lotions: on face, on hands, on feet, on everything! I also recently bought a lotion that serves as a sunscreen and a skin tone neutralizer by Vaseline. It was recommended by an Arab influencer whose opinion I trust. I’ve been using it for a month now, and yes, it has helped in reviving my original skin tone in some areas.

Vaseline Even Tone

3- Water: Lots and lots of water. I don’t drink sodas nor juices but I do binge on water.

4- Staying Indoors: I am always hanging out in malls during the scorching heat (as if I have any other choice!) Good for the skin; bad – very bad – for the pocket.

5- Moisturizing: Morning and night. I made a of habit of moisturizing my face and body every morning and every night before heading to bed. I use products also from the Philippines which I’ve found to be very compatible with my skin.

6-  Makeup with SPF: During the summer days, I make sure to use foundations with SPF  30 and above. The one I’m currently using is Dior’s Forever. It is recommended for oily skin.

What happens before I sleep? (It could inspire you too..)

So lately, I’ve been suffering from writers’ block (shall we call it bloggers’ block?).

So much drama happened in the past couple of months and right now all I can think about is sleep. I’ve been sitting here for the past hour not feeling excited about blogging on the topics I have prepared in my notebook. I yawn sleepily and suddenly realize why don’t I blog on my favorite current pastime, SLEEPING. Even better, what happens before I sleep! The content below is actually my health/beauty routine so if you’re a male feel free to skip ahead 🙂

Here we go

  1. No dinner: Yes, I don’t eat anything past 6 pm. I just drink lots and lots of water.
  2. Yoga: Just started this and it really helped me with insomnia and anxiety so far. I even sleep better.
  3. Remove makeup: I bought this amazing product in Sephora on a whim and it is definitely one of my best beauty decisions: The Original MakeUp Eraser. It is absolutely wonderful for just a towel. Removes makeup completely without irritating the skin.s1702950-main-Lhero
  4. Cleanse: I use the FOREO for this step. This is another winner product. My skin never felt so smooth! I use it with a drop of facewash for twice the effect. s1816081-main-Lhero
  5. Moisturize: I use two products for this step. The first is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum. My face is now more radiant and refreshing thanks to this product. It is apparently the number one repair serum! I use circular motion to really blend it into my skin. The second step is the actual moisturizer. It is a Filipino brand but works really well on my skin! The Myra Vitasmooth Hydrating Facial Moisturizer. It is loaded with vitamin E which really helps with my complexion.
  6. Eye Treatment: Hands down. The best eye cream I’ve tried so far. My dark circles have been reduced thanks to this baby! s1632181-main-Lhero
  7. Body breather: Moisturizing my body is very important to me. I suffer from dry skin due to Qatar’s extreme weather so I use the Creme 21 Body Lotion for Ultra Dry Skin. Now, my skin is not THAT dry but I like to treat it as such for smoother skin.13424-01
  8. Spray that bed: yes, let that bed smell cozy and fresh as I sleep! I usually use lavender based fragrances

Now, it’s time for me to go through what I just listed and head to bed!

Goodnight ❤

Glam Glow Mud Masks Review

all-mudI’ve been using those 3 products for a while now & I must say, despite all the negative vs positive hype, I’m loving them. They all leave my skin glowing and smooth. I have combination skin but more on the oily side so those products comes in very handy mid week when I’m stressed and my face feels like it hasn’t showered for days. Yes, showered not washed. Trying to explain what it feels like for an oily-faced girl to be stressed. This brand has been around for a while now but it looks like it hasn’t caught that much attention in Qatar. What really impressed me is that it is actually made of MUD.

Now let me explain what each product is all about:

Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment

Youth mud.jpgGood for normal, oily, combination, and dry skin. IT IS NOT FOR SENSITIVE SKIN. If you suffer from wrinkles and/or uneven texture then this is your product.

The purpose of this product is to brighten and soften your facial skin in as little as 10 minutes. It moisturizes and exfoliates at the same time. This product also tingles like hell. If you’re very susceptible to pain then you can either toughen up or just forget about purchasing this one. I remember the first time I tried this on my face I started dancing like a crazy person because it hurt!! Anyway, it was worth it. My skin was left soooo soft, smooth, and tight. Yes, tight. Like I’m 10 years younger again 🙂 well, at least for the next 24 hours.

Recommend using this during the weekend to clear your skin from a whole week of stress and accumulated dirt.

Thirsty Mud Hydrating Treatment
thirsty mud.jpg Good for normal, oily, combination, and dry skin. I would personally recommend this for sensitive skin but please try it first on a small part of your face before going all aboard.

What I really love about this is the extreme moisture. I mean, wow did my face just drink water! Once the mask is off, it feels like my face is breathing on its own. That sweet barely there tingly feeling like you just spent the day at the spa. It also leaves the skin as smooth as baby. This one does not exfoliate; therefore, it can be used 2-3 times a week. One downside, the smell was not so….accepting to say the least.

Recommend using it during the week. Twice if you feel like it.

Supermud Clearing Treatment

Good for normal, oily, & combination. THIS IS NOT FOR SENSITIVE AND DRY SKIN.

This product is designed to clear the complexion such as acne, pores, blemishes and oiliness. I suffer from pores and oiliness so it worked perfectly for me. Whenever I used it, my skin felt clear, clean, and renewed. You can also only use it for the T-Zone and extend just above the eyebrows. It can also be used as a daily moisturizer or just apply it over the troubled areas overnight and you could wake up to magic. Trust me.

Recommended for every other day use in rotation with the Thirstymud explained above.

They are all available in Sephora and cost the same; around 300 QR (70$) A little pricey but worth the try. Just choose wisely.

Enjoy 🙂

2016: The Year I Discovered Makeup

I never understood makeup or the necessity of it. I criticized women who wore it too much. But after a nasty heartbreak this year, I realized that women wore makeup not to impress others but to please themselves. I started wearing makeup to feel better about myself, to boost my confidence, and to prove to myself that I am capable of loving myself. Anyway, enough drama and rambling on why I fell in love with makeup. Here are the makeup products I’m currently using. I can only tell you how great they are on my skin but I cannot recommend them because each one of us has different skin tone and type.

My skin type is oily. Although I was fine with reapplying face powder whenever it gets oily but with back to back meetings at work, long drives & errands, and a full day outdoors, it is not practical. Especially when you have to stand in front of complete strangers, applying makeup. Not a fun sight. Then, I finally found this product. It is applied before foundation.  Once you apply the foundation after, it gives a matte finish which practically means that my skins looks less oily throughout the day. It still gets sliiiiiightly oily after few hours but not like before.

One of the downsides of being me are my dark circles. Hate them. The magic trick to hiding those pandas is by using an orange-colored concealer. The Fake up darkest shade works perfectly as a healer! I then apply the erase paste above it for the final correct color coverage. This Erase Paste product from Benefit is a lifesaver for me. It covers everything, I use it to cover pimples and dark spots.

I’ve used too many foundation products in my life. Yes, I used to apply makeup but just really slightly. Last month, I decided to try the Max Factor Facefinity 3 in 1. It is supposed to be a primer, concealer, and foundation all in one. Hmmmm not convinced. I still needed to use concealer. However, it does have a lovely finish & doesn’t melt as much as other liquid foundations. (Heat in Qatar can reach upto 60 degrees…Celsius! during the summer). I think I will go with other foundation products next time which are the Estee Lauder Double Wear and the FAMOUS and revolutionary foundation, the YSL Le Cushion Encre de Peau.

This is actually a foundation but I use it as a finishing powder after applying the foundation. I’ve been using it for a about a week now and I must say I am very impressed. Two Words: Full Coverage.

This is a world where I never thought I would explore. Never ever. I always made fun of contouring tutorials. Buuuuuuuut, it is amazing!!! I mean, why not look even more polished? why not??

For work, I use the Max Factor (You can see that I went on a shopping spree with their products last month!) Pan Stik and Highlighter. The Pan Stik is great and comes with a tiny brush for nose contouring. As for the highlighter, meh…. Not very impressed. It is mostly barely there and is gone by the time I finish applying make up.

For my non-work related events, I spoil myself with NARS Narsissist . You can see that I just purchased it but so far the contouring palette works great. The pinkish colors at the bottom are blushes.

I am currently using two blushes on a regular basis. The Nars bright pink blush and the Hervana from Benefit. A girl gotta look like she just stepped of the beach ok?

Eyebrows, eyebrows, eyebrows. The wonderland of eyebrows. I have really thin eyebrows which I hate. It used to work for me during the early 2000s but not lately.

I start with the Gimme Brow product. The last one from the top. It gives my eyebrows volume just as the product says: Gimme brows :). Then I start shaping using the second product from the top. Then I use the third one from the top to lock in the kiddish (not so much) drawings I just did on my brows. It is a gel-like material that actually saves me from looking like an idiot when one of my brows decide to melt or disappear. Finally, I highlight the bottom of my brows with the top product for a polished and clean look.

Ok, please stop thinking of me as a makeup freak. I don’t use all those eyeliners at once. However, I always use the Sephora beige nuit kajal on my lower eyelid in order to accentuate my eyes so they look bigger. I always used to apply black eyeliner on my lower lid until someone told me I have tiny eyes. (I KNOW, DEAR, I KNOW). I also rotate on using the Sephora black nuit kajal, The Nars, or the Tattoo Liner by Kat Von D. My favorite so far is the KVD. Since I have an oily skin, I always apply a primer around my eyes before working the magic 🙂 The primer, also a Sephora product, is pictured below

I am new to the world of eye shadow. I bought both products last week and I’m currently learning how to apply proper eyeshadow.

Bourjois’ Volume reveal waterproof is the best I’ve ever tried. I previously tried many mascaras that claim to be “waterproof” but they all failed until this one came along. As a primer, I use the Smashbox lash primer.

Nope, it’s not just a simple one layer of lipstick nowadays, it is a three-step process.

Step One: Dior’s Lip Maximizer Collagen Activ. It is supposed to pump up your lips and make them “seem” bigger after 15 days of daily use. So far, no changes as I’m still within the 15 days. I’ll let you know by the end of January. One advise: It tingles!!!!!

Step Two: The lipstick. Currently, I am obsessed with Huda Beauty’s Liquid Matte lipsticks and I’m planning on purchasing all shades!

Step Three: It is actually a steal. It is part of a two-step product that is supposed to lock in and moisture the Lipfinity lipsticks. I use it for all lipsticks. Why? because I am constantly eating and drinking coffee. I cannot keep re-applying lipstick all day! This is the only product that I will recommend as it actually works as a seal preventing lipsticks from fading.

At last, let me lock in all the hard work !!!! This product is great for indoor activities and cool weather. However, it is still not working well during the scorching hot days in Doha; especially when I have to cross an entire tracking field just to grab coffee and/or lunch at work!!!!! So once I’m done with it, I am moving on. Nevertheless, it can be used in countries with cooler climates.

I will be posting my makeup splurges on a monthly basis. Probably by the end of every month to highlight my favorites.
